Open Enrollment is the once-a-year window when anyone can sign up for, renew, or change a health plan through the ACA Marketplace, without needing a special reason. For most states, the federal window runs in the late fall and early winter for coverage starting the following year.
Some state-based marketplaces set their own dates, which can differ from the federal window. A licensed agent will confirm the exact dates that apply to your state so you do not miss them.
If you miss Open Enrollment, you generally cannot buy an ACA marketplace plan until the next one, unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period because of a life event like losing coverage, moving, marriage, or a new baby.
You are not necessarily out of options in the meantime. Depending on your state, a private plan or a short-term plan may be available to bridge the gap. A licensed agent will tell you the fastest legitimate path to coverage.
